Workforce & Education

Mayor speaks with studentsThe mission of the Workforce & Education Committee is to facilitate and support activities related to business-education partnerships, youth engagement and workforce recruitment and retention. The committee also addresses education needs amongst the business community. The Workforce & Education committee meets the third Wednesday of every month at 3:30 pm at the Chamber.

The 2017 Committee Chair is Dr. Naomi Ludeman Smith, Presentation Colldge. The Chamber staff liaison is Lisa Anderson.

The committee facilitates:

New Faculty Luncheon: This annual event welcomes the new area teachers and faculty from our local schools and colleges! Businesses sponsor a teacher and donate a goodie to show appreciation for our new teachers!

Youth Career Expo:  This annual event brings area Juniors & Seniors together with individuals of various occupations.  The presenters share with the students descriptions of their professionals, requirements, rewards, etc.  

Youth Recognition: In 2010 and 2011, Aberdeen was named Top 100 Communities for Youth through Americas Promise Alliance! The committee collected data from various youth community organizations, as well as the school district to highlight the amazing community programs to keep our children engaged in school and the community!
